Why HKB?

Our mission is to empower anyone who engages with the brand to purposefully draw outside the lines to ensure no two spaces mimic the other or identify with common design molds. Our design team works to invoke both inspiration and assurance into the lives of our clients by creating luxurious yet sustainable spaces.

The values of HKB are to spread contagious energy, listen intently, embolden spaces, cultivate strong relationships, value ideas over hierarchy and operate methodically while designing spaces beyond boundaries.

Meet Heather

Heather Bernstein, owner of HKB Interior Design, is a master interior designer with over a decade of experience in the industry. Heather’s bubbly yet professional personality leaves its mark on every home she touches with her personalized, warm approach to interiors. Heather’s love for beautiful spaces originated from her time spent absorbing her mother’s skill in interior design and running her independent firm. After graduating college, Heather moved to Thailand to teach English which expanded her senses and empathy for other cultures that commonly shows in her designs. Soon after, Heather accepted a corporate position for a Fortune 500 leading specialty retailer of high-quality products. This experience not only enhances her passion for design but can also be attributed to her well-rounded creativity and organizational skills that now come as second nature.

When Heather isn’t working with clients, you will find her chasing around her 2 boys and golden retriever. Heather continues to embrace travel as a necessary pleasure, is constantly seeking out the best sushi on the market, and is frequently socializing in her community enjoying laughs over a good glass of wine.

Heather and her team are proud partners of Welcoming Home. Read more about this amazing organization below and help us give back.

Meet Reed

Reed graduated with her BFA interior architecture and design from Academy of Art university in 2011. A Bay Area native, her love for nature and beauty are ingrained in her design style. Reed admires craftsmanship and has an attraction to learning while obsessing over the details and her goal is to create spaces that truly reflect the people that inhabit them. With a vast portfolio working for some of the industry-leading design firms, Reed was thrilled to join the HKB design team as a company that values hard work, passion, and approachability.

When Reed isn’t curating stunning spaces, you will find her exploring the beauty of the Bay Area with her husband and little guy, Paxton. She is also an avid treasure hunter and dabbles in flea market explorations and thrift store ventures in her spare time.

Meet Mackenzie

Mackenzie graduated from CSU, Chico in the Spring of 2017 with a dual-degree in Resort/Lodging Management and Event Management and a Minor in International Studies. After graduation, Mackenzie began her career working for Kelleher International followed by Enterprise Events Group as an event specialist, traveling to locations such as London, NYC, LA, Lisbon, and Austin for onsite programs. In the midst of her travels to events, she learned the many crucial details that go into a project and she is excited to bring that level of detail to the HKB team. Her goal is to create beautiful spaces that speak to the inhabitants and evoke true feelings and lasting memories.

Mackenzie was born and raised in Palm Desert, CA but spent summers with family in Nantucket, MA. She loves to pull from the vintage, elevated styles in New England while integrating pieces of her desert roots as well. When Mackenzie isn’t keeping us organized, you will find her learning the art of being a chef with her father, creating both memories and dishes to be enjoyed for years to come. She also may be seeking inspiration from her travels - particularly Italy, where she is enticed by the warm colors, open layouts, and organic materials used throughout the Italian countryside.

Community Involvement

We are proud to be partners with Welcoming Home, a non-profit who’s sole mission is to help individuals and families who are

transitioning out of homelessness and poverty by fully furnishing and equipping their “new” homes. They help by engaging the

local communities in which these people live by donating funds and needed household goods to foster their mission of neighbors

helping neighbors. They also believe strongly in re-using good furniture rather than having it go to landfill. We are excited to

up-cycle unused furnishings and help giving these families a home to call their how. If you have any gently used pieces you are

ready to part from, please reach out to us.
